Your first therapy session will usually begin with an in-depth conversation with Wendy to help you get to know each other, and to learn a little more about your injury before diving into a specific treatment.
We try to use this session to review your medical history and the origins of your pain or injury. Don't forget to take this opportunity to ask any of your own questions as well!
Next, we complete a full physical assessment of your injury or pain areas to find a diagnosis and determine your mobility, strength, and any limitations you’re experiencing to develop a custom treatment plan.
During a session, it’s important for you to be able to easily move around while remaining comfortable. The most suitable clothing is relaxed, baggy clothing that won't limit movement and allows access to your particular injury or pain problem.
Clothing shouldn’t restrict your ability to move your hips, shoulders, knees, and spine so that Wendy can get a full impression of your range of movement.
Short sleeve shirts or loose t-shirts are excellent for movement of your upper body.Regular length shorts are a good choice, however skirts, dresses, and short/tight shorts are not as good.
Sometimes you will be required to wear comfortable footwear such as trainers or running shoes so you can perform mild exercises. You might also be asked to take off your shoes, so footwear that is easy to remove the better. We recommend wearing warm socks - you may be asked to remove your shoes and we don't want you to get cold feet.
If your appointment is for a foot, knee, or ankle injury, we recommend wearing a pair of loose-fitting shorts or baggy trousers that can be rolled up to expose your knee, whilst allowing a good variety of movement.
It is also a good idea to bring along the following in order to get the most out of your sports therapy session:
Wendy will provide you with a treatment plan with detailed notes for exercises to practice at home. However, it may be helpful to take your own notes if you prefer to do so.
